The island of Elba is honestly the best example of paradise that I could come up with. With the crystal clear colour of the Tyrrhenian sea and the tranquil little towns that are dotted around the island, it is the perfect place to let yourself relax and completely unwind. Our trip to the island was, to my dismay, brief but so worth the journey to get there. From Siena we got three trains and one ferry to arrive to the island’s main port Portoferraio.

From there we got a bus over to our base camp for the weekend which was Marina di Campo. We had rented an Airbnb that was perfectly close to both the beach and the town, both being a five minute leisurely stroll away. Now because we were only there for the weekend we didn’t get to do a lot of travel around the island to see the different beaches etc, however the little that we did see, convinced me that I need to go back ASAP and do the rest of the Island justice.
That being said, if you, like me, are there for a limited amount of time and want to see some of the island, I wholeheartedly recommend you try the Motobarca Mickey Mouse boat trip (trip advisor link here). We ended up getting the whole boat to ourselves and the took us around to the different caves and off the grid beaches of the island. The lads who run it were so nice and supplied us with lunch and lots of white wine and Prosecco (because we are totally leading student lifestyles). The whole trip was about 5 hours and 30 euro per person. It is ENTIRELY WORTH IT! Do it and you will not regret it, you are welcome.

In terms of Aperitivo hour (my fav) Marina di Campo has a load of lovely bars and restaurants near the docking area. The town also has a proponent for live music and in some of these seaside bars you will find performers with voices of angels there to serenade you while you watch the sun go down. Il Veliero and and El Pinpa Cocktail Lounge Bar being two of note. In terms of gelaterias, make sure you try Gelateria Nonna Orsa and Gelateria Zero Gradi. These two places produce pure and utter joy in the form of perfect ice creamy goodness. Dare I say, these two our a must visit during your stay in Marina di Campo.
